What is Air Pollution?
A Short Overview
Air Pollution: Small particles of matter present in the atmosphere that harms the health of humans and other living beings. According to the WHO, 91% of the world's population lives in places where the air pollution exceeded WHO limits. The most dangerous form of air pollution is PM 2.5. Because PM 2.5 particles are so small, they can go deep into the lungs and in some cases, can end up in the bloodstream. Air pollution causes 4.2 million deaths each year(due to outdoor air pollution), which is why we must protect ourselves from it.
The Effect of Air Pollution
A Short Overview
Air pollution affects everyone's life, here is a short overview of the impact of air pollution:
- Numerous studies have found that pollution harms the human brain at all stages of life. High pollution levels can negatively affect a child's brain health making them struggle in school and ultimately in their adult life as well. There is also speculation that there is a connection between air pollution and Alzheimer's.
- Lung damage is bound to occur in areas with high pollution. Air pollution has been known to cause lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, and asthma, because of which over 6% of the population dies globally every year.
